DAYENU!

Being and singing together was already my favorite thing. Now, after the few years we’ve had, it’s my favorite even more so. I am more aware of all of the factors that had to go right, all of the science, the strength, and the spirit behind the present moment, and it’s gratitude all the way down. Dayenu- even one small step in this journey would have been enough, we say, but it’s not true in a literal sense. Had we been taken out of Egypt but left to die in the desert? It must be, as all of our liturgy is, I think, poetry. It must be a reminder to remember that each moment is possible because of an infinite numbers of decisions, processes, and people that came before. It’s gratitude all the way down. If only we had gathered, if only we raised our voices, if only you could sing along and join us from wherever you are right now- Dayenu.
